Biography
Born in Scotland, Isla Millar lives and works in Warwickshire. Originally qualifying with a degree in engineering, she followed a career in business before embarking upon a change in direction to pursue a life-long interest in art. Graduating in 2016, with a B.A. (Hons 1st class) from Oxford Brookes University, her work explores the intersection between the arts and science, with a focus on the human condition. She creates collections of objects and installations that aim to engage the viewer and offer a new perspective.
Collaboration with others has shaped Isla’s practice. Working with professionals from scientific backgrounds and individuals with a diverse range of lived experiences has enabled her to tackle challenging themes. Projects have included working with Headway (the Brain Injury Association), Neuroscientists from King's College London and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons from Oxford University Hospital Trust. Most recently, Isla collaborated with academics from Goldsmiths University of London as part of a Wellcome Trust research project, utilising artistic methods to enhance understanding of living with drug addiction .
Isla combines her artistic practice with her role as an Innovation and Change Consultant across a range of sectors.
